Benkan lives with Shounagon since childhood (Shounagon's mother dead when Shounagon was 3 years old), she is just like Shounagon's big sister and mother. Benkan often try to prevent Shounagon from doing wild things.
Benkan is also a court lady, who serve Takako, Teishi's mother.
