Itaru originally came from Tokyo, yet carries an Osaka accent. He dropped out of college, where he majored in Literature, but left home, not wanting to be a burden to his parents. Kouki finds him drunk in a trash heap and accidentally destroys his camera. With no place to stay and no money to pay for the repairs, Itaru is forced to stay at Kouki's place.


Itaru is shown to be skilled in writing. In the past, one of his friends stole an idea for a story he had been cultivating for years. Because this friend was popular and the story he published won him an honorable mention in a literary magazine, no one believed Itaru when rumours began circulating that his friend plagiarised him—due to the difference in skill. This led to him becoming more timid and unconfident in himself.
