Sougen "Master"

About

Sougen is the protagonist of Bozu to Kumo, a traveling Buddhist monk. His obsession with monsters leads to agreeing to let Jinsuke the spider-demon tag along as a companion, though Jinsuke's affection and childish possessiveness are sometimes too much and make him lose his temper. Sougen is prone to randomly falling asleep for very long periods of time (even years) and others comment that he isn't human, though Sougen himself isn't interested in pursuing the thought further.


Sougen's mother disappeared into a forest that was rumored to be cursed, while searching for her husband who'd also disappeared. She was found at the edge of the forest half a year later, heavily pregnant, and died soon after giving birth. After being passed around between relatives and considered a bad omen, Sougen was beaten up by the villagers and left for dead, ultimately being found by an elderly traveling monk who took him under his protection.
