Zheren

Zheren is a traveling merchant similar to Kraft Lawrence.

Zheren is a young man with brown hair and eyes and a distinctive missing upper tooth. He is usually depicted with his eyes closed and a nervous, shy smile on his lips. Whether his awkward, somewhat blunt persona belies actual inexperience or is merely a front for luring his targets remains unknown.


He approaches Lawrence and Holo while the pair are sheltering at a monastery, claiming to be a rookie peddler with inside knowledge of an imminent change in the currency market. In reality, he is one of many agents hired by the Medio Trading Company to trick other merchants into purchasing devaluing Trenni silver. This would allow Medio Trading to perpetrate a currency speculation scheme meant to force economic concessions from the Kingdom of Trenni.

Although Holo knows that Zheren is lying, Lawrence accepts his offer in hopes of profiting by exposing the plot to a rival company. When Zheren reports the “deal” to his superiors, however, Medio Trading recognizes Holo’s name and discerns Lawrence’s intentions. Zheren plays no further role in the ensuing drama, but he presumably continues to work as a merchant after the incident.
