About

Yuuta is a middle school student who wants to make a movie that will be universally liked, but hasn't seen that many. At his terminally ill mother's request, he films her last months. After editing them into a movie with an explosion added at the end, which he presents at the school festival, he is faced with backlash from students who consider the approach rude and inconsiderate.

Determined to take his own life, Yuuta goes to the rooftop of the hospital where his mother passed, but a meeting with the strange Eri derails his entire plan. As the two hang out more and more to watch movies, Yuuta finds the motivation to improve his filmmaking skills.


Despite the second movie, Goodbye Eri, doing much better, Yuuta's real life doesn't match his protagonist's. He becomes obsessed with recutting Goodbye Eri well into his adult and married life, feeling that it is still missing something.


After his entire family is killed in a traffic accident, Yuuta films himself admitting that he distances himself from the problems in his life, viewing them through a layer of fantasy and the lens of a camera.


Of course, Yuuta's entire character as seen in the manga, is open to the reader's interpretation, regarding how much of his life is real and how much is part of a movie.
