He is a 31-year-old man who works as one of the gardeners on the Kayashima estate, having chosen to pursue gardening as a career out of passion for it, instead of using his law degree. He doesn't talk much outside of intimate situations. When Sumito confesses that he loves him, he only agrees to a physical relationship at first, but falls in love with Sumito eventually and agrees to be his lover. He has a younger sister named Noriko.

His name is never mentioned in the story; in a postscript, the author, Tono, mentions that it is a deliberate decision, as she feels that some would consider the name "wouldn't feel right [for him]", regardless of what she chose. As such, she encourages the reader to imagine their own name for him.
