Hideshi Hino

    About

Hideshi Hino appears in many of his own works that come with an autobiographical, albeit fictionalized, slant. His appearance differs slightly, but the details about his early life remain consistent.

In Jigoku no Komoriuta, Hino's childhood is marked by parental neglect and abuse, and isolation, which leads to him developing an interest in the macabre. He fantasizes about having the super power of causing the death anyone who hurts (or simply inconveniences) him.

In Jigokuhen, Hino is a painter obsessed with the color and smell of blood. He works in a sunless studio and frequently uses his own blood in his paintings. Every chapter depicts a part of his life that is the inspiration for the corresponding painting, and he is working on his masterpiece: a large painting which he plans to title "Panorama of Hell".
