Maeda, Tsuneo

    About

Maeda Tsuneo is a veteran animation supervisor formerly belonging to Group Tac. He is a member of the Japan Animation Creators Association (JAniCA) and lectures at the Kyoto University the subject animation. He is well known for his involvement with the two Miyazawa Kenji works, Night on the Galactic Railroad and Spring and Chaos as well as the hit TV series Touch. Furthermore he was the animation supervisor for Sugii Gisaburo's Arashi no Yoru ni. The choice as explained by Sugii was "To animate these characters the first thing that occurred to me was that they couldn't be drawn with an ordinary, flat-toned drawing of a wolf and a lamb. They had to be drawn in a way that would emphasize their predator/prey relationship so that the audience would feel the unnaturalness of their friendship. This being the much-touted digital age, I put the challenge to animation supervisor Maeda Tsuneo of coming up with a way of digitally creating a feeling of texture for the fur rather than having usual flat coloring."
