Born in Steventon Rectory, Hampshire, England. Passed away on 18 July, 1817 at age 41 in Winchester, Hampshire, England due to illness. She was placed to rest in Winchester Cathedral, Hampshire, England. She attended Reading Abbey Girls' School and began writing in 1787. She began writing in 1787, and continued until March 1817, likely due to her illness. Her works would often interpret, comment on and critique the British landed gentry and novels of sensibility of the late 18th century. Her works would also explore the dependence of women on marriage in the pursuit of favourable social standing and economic security. She is known for having 6 major novels, among other works. She published her novels anonymously until the posthumous publication of her novels Northanger Abbey and Persuasion in 1818, which revealed her as the writer of her works. Austen's work rose in popularity from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century, and is now considered one of the greatest authors of all time, with numerous adaptations of her novels.
